Donnelly delighted with election performance

Newly elected Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Donnelly said that he was delighted with his poll topping performance in last Friday’s Dublin West bye-election and is determined to capture a Dáil seat at the next general election.

Speaking from his constituency this morning, Mr. Donnelly said “I want to thank the good people of Dublin West who voted for me and my party in their thousands last week. Sinn Féin has established itself as a major political force in this constituency and although I did not get elected to the Dáil this time, the future augurs very well for us with our historic breakthrough on Fingal County Council. We are well positioned to take a seat at the next general election.”

“We have for the first time secured a Sinn Féin council seat in Castleknock through the election of Natalie Treacy and have also gone from zero to two in Mulhuddart with the election of myself and Edmond Lukusa. Our success was replicated throughout Fingal with Philip Lynam taking a seat in Swords, Malachy Quinn in Balbriggan and Daire Ní Laoi in Howth/Malahide.”

“The people placed a massive degree of trust in us last week and we’re under no illusions now as to our responsibility to them. We’re keen to get down to work and to start delivering for our constituents and that’s what we intend to do.”
