DUBLIN WEST SINN FEIN TD, PAUL DONNELLY HAS CALLED FOR THE IMMEDIATE CLOSURE OF ALL FINGAL COUNTY COUNCIL CAR PARKS

Paul Donnelly TD has written to Fingal County Council CEO Ann Marie Farrelly to call for the closure of all car parks in certain high amenity areas, the sheer volume of people travelling by car to many of Fingal’s scenic areas, parks, piers and other amenities is now warranted.

I believe that it is essential that Fingal County Council now acts immediately to close all car parks under the control of Fingal throughout the county to limit the numbers who clearly do not understand that dangerous situation this country is facing in the next couple of weeks and months.

I strongly believe this would send out a strong message to people that if you wish to go for a walk then you should be only using your local park or green space. I believe that it would stop the overcrowding that we saw over the weekend whilst allowing local people access their parks in a safe manner.

I am also calling for a joint Park Ranger and Garda operation to patrol all parks with all-weather soccer and Basketball pitches and skate parks to prevent large groups congregating. I saw this myself in the Millennium park yesterday. They were in use all day with large groups of young people and indeed older people playing sports without any consideration for the danger they were putting themselves and others in.

I am saddened that it should come to this, but I believe it is for the greater good of our citizens.
