Mountview Locals Raise €1000 for Senior Citizens

During the month of September, with the help of local Sinn Féin Rep Natalie Treacy, Mountview locals helped to raise over €1000 for Senior Citizens. Upon presenting the money to the groups’ leader Bridie O’Neill, local Sinn Féin rep Natalie Treacy said “I am delighted to be able to hand over this money to Mountview Senior Citizens, it is important that we look after our elderly people. Everyone in this group has played a huge role in my life and the lives of so many other people in Mountview, Fortlawn and Whitechapel. It is unbelievable that this government has cut your telephone allowance and it only shows that they don’t care about the most vulnerable in society. I hope this money will play a small part in giving back to the community and to this group in particular who have given me and others so much over the years”

The group comprises of up to thirty senior citizens, which meet once a week for bingo, chat and other activities. In recent years the group hasn’t received any funding from government, however, it has kept itself  going despite this. It is great to see a local rep coming together with residents to raise money for vulnerable groups within their area.
