PRIVATE MANAGEMENT COMPANY REFUSE TO RENT PROPERTY OWNED BY FINGAL COUNTY COUNCIL TO HOMELESS FAMILY.

Cllr PPAUL-NEWSaul Donnelly has described as outrageous the refusal to rent accommodation to a homeless family, currently accommodated in a hotel, by a private management company who manage 162 former affordable housing units in the Parnell Estate, Mulhuddart on behalf of Fingal County Council.

Cllr Donnelly said “It is nothing short of a scandal that we have 162 properties, owned by the state, that are being managed by a private management company, who then ban people on rent allowance from accessing those properties”

“It is widely acknowledged by all front line services, that we are in the midst of one of the worst housing crisis in many decades and yet we have this situation in Dublin West?

“I have raised this with Fingal County Council and I have received very unsatisfactory answers from management.  I had thought that there would have been a policy change after I had previously asked questions and had fully intended to again seek clarification at next month’s council meeting however I am shocked to hear that a family was again refused on the basis of rent allowance from renting a property in the Parnell estate.

These state owned properties, 162 in all, currently rented out on the private basis, by a private management company would go a some way to alleviating the homelessness crisis.

“I have spoken directly with Paul Reid, CEO of Fingal County Council this morning and I am calling him to immediately intervene to allow homeless families and those on the verge homelessness and who are serving out their notice to quit access these properties.
