TIME RUNNING OUT FOR ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE FOR DUBLIN 15

Dublin West Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Donnelly has welcomed the establishment of the St Patrick’s Day Parade committee for the Blanchardstown community however has expressed his deep concern that time is running out.

Cllr Donnelly said “I raised the staging of a St Patrick’s day parade some time ago on social media and got a massive response from the community who were overwhelmingly in favour of it.”

“I was pleased to see during our annual budget process that over €185k was allocated to such a venture. I am pleased that a committee has been established however I am concerned that it’s starting very late in the day. We are 9 weeks away from St Patrick’s Day and having organised many events over the years, I know the amount of planning that must go into something as big as this.”

“I am also adamant that it must be fully representative of the community and voluntary groups, of which there are many here in Dublin 15. It must be opened up for public consultation and a conversation must be had with the community to ensure it’s as representative as possible.”

“I will certainly play my part in ensuring it is a successful event and I wish the team well in the coming months.”
